Create tomorrow’s breakthroughs, today.
You can accelerate life-changing clinical trials so babies like Isolde can thrive.
Donate today so no baby with cerebral palsy misses out.
The time it can take for babies at risk of cerebral palsy to receive the full benefits of clinical trials is the equivalent of two childhoods. Your generous donation will supercharge cutting-edge research so that babies like Isolde can access breakthrough treatments when they will have the greatest impact.
Meet Isolde
When Isolde was born prematurely at 23 weeks, her parents didn’t know if she would survive. She weighed only 675 grams and had numerous brain bleeds.
After 128 days in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), Isolde finally got to go home with her parents. Within a week, she had her first appointment with Cerebral Palsy Alliance.
Her parents weren’t sure what the future looked like for their little girl. They worried they wouldn’t be able to afford the early intervention therapy she needed to thrive.
Then Isolde was invited to join Cerebral Palsy Alliance’s clinical trial GAME, made possible entirely by generous donors, and everything changed.
Isolde is two now. If a new standard trial began today, she would be 33 before the findings improved her day-to-day care.
In that time, another 13,578 babies could be born with CP.
Clinical trials can transform lives
Taking part in the GAME (Goals, Activity, Motor Enrichment) trial transformed Isolde’s future, giving her access to critical early intervention speech therapy, occupational therapy and physiotherapy that her family may not have been able to afford.
Now, at 2 years old, little Isolde can sit and play independently, her fine motor skills are developing beautifully, and just the other day, she rolled from lying down to sitting. Isolde’s progress is a testament to the life-changing impact that clinical trials can have for babies with cerebral palsy.
But there are so many babies, just like Isolde, who won’t get the same opportunity. Standard clinical trials can take 14 years to discover a new treatment. And another 17 years to translate those new treatments into real-world care.
That’s a waiting period two childhoods long.
There is a better way, but we need your help to do it.
Adaptive trials – the future of research
We have an opportunity to revolutionise the way clinical trials are delivered to babies like Isolde. It cuts clinical trial times by years and harnesses the best and latest research across the world.
It’s called the CP Global Clinical Trials Network, and you can be part of the pioneering team bringing this exciting approach to Australia.
Adaptive clinical trials are faster than standard trials. They’re also more effective and less expensive.
Your support will mean babies with cerebral palsy will be able to receive critical treatments within the first 1000 days of life, when it has the most impact. It could be the difference that helps a child take their first step or say their first word.
Two childhoods is too long.
You can make life-changing clinical trials accessible to babies like Isolde today.
“If we hadn’t been selected for the clinical trial, I honestly don’t know how we would have done those therapies. We couldn’t have afforded it, and we had no way of knowing what to do ourselves.” – Kate, Isolde’s Mum
Meet some inspiring young kids!
Aidyn
Born just shy of 23 weeks, Aidyn is now a happy, cheeky, and funny kid. He lives with severe cerebral palsy, and is making amazing progress with the support of CPA therapies like Telepractice sessions and physiotherapy, to get ready for his first year of school.
Christopher
Christopher has defied the odds and surprises everyone around him with this strength, determination, will to live and capacity to love. Born at 37 weeks after suffering brain damage in the womb due to CMV, Christopher has severe CP, is non-verbal, and has no control over his limbs.
Dax
Dax has had it tough from day one when he was born with the umbilical cord wrapped around his neck. After a difficult and complicated diagnosis, Dax started therapy with CPA and inspires everyone every day with his infectious determination and constant positive progress.
