Every advancement in the field of cerebral palsy dramatically changed Ethan’s life, but sadly, they couldn’t save it.
Ethan was born suddenly on Easter Sunday in 2004 at only 26 weeks.
Today, his mum, Shannon, should be planning his 18th Birthday party. Instead she is mourning the loss of her beautiful boy.
Tragically, Ethan passed away suddenly in September 2010. He was only six years old.
Ethan was happy, loving and intelligent. He achieved so much in his short life, even with the odds thoroughly stacked against him.
We’ve made significant progress in cerebral palsy research recently, but there is still so much to do.
Any one of our research projects could lead to the next breakthrough that will have a significant and lasting impact on thousands of families. That’s why it’s imperative we fund as much research as possible.

Despite significant advances in the treatment and prevention of cerebral palsy, 50% of children born with severe CP will not live to celebrate their 18th birthday.
In 2005, we established the Cerebral Palsy Alliance Research Foundation to fund Australian and international cerebral palsy research.
Together, we have reduced the rate of cerebral palsy and we’ve lowered the age at which children are diagnosed with cerebral palsy.
We’re also increasing our understanding of the different causes of cerebral palsy.
Any one of our research projects could have a significant and lasting impact on thousands of families – but more needs to be done to save children like Ethan in the future.
